EA and DICE are gearing up for Battlefield 6 Season 2 on February 17. Today, Battlefield Studios dropped a deep community update that highlights a number of gameplay tweaks coming in the new season.
This patch is less focused on overhauling systems and more focused on refining them for smoother progression and more consistent combat.
The Season 2 update is based on player feedback from throughout Season 1 as well as testing in Battlefield Labs. Everything from quicker Battle Pass progression to more stable movement is being addressed to help tighten up Battlefield’s many systems across all modes. Here’s everything that’s changing with the launch of Season 2.
Progression and Challenge System Changes
Progression has always been a balancing act, but Season 2 is receiving some targeted improvements. Season 2 will feature challenges that aren’t locked to any one game mode so players have more freedom in which matches they want to play to earn rewards.
Here’s a look at some of the progression tweaks for Season 2:
- Fewer mode locked challenges
- Removing the daily sidearm challenge
- Assists are counting towards your Daily Challenges more consistently
- Increased the Battle Pass level you gain from Career XP tokens
- Also increased Career XP and Weapon XP earn rates for players on Battlefield: REDSEC.
Weapons Balance Updates
Weapons have been adjusted across the board to improve handling. Recoil compensation has been made consistent, which will make gunplay feel more reliable and reduce wonky encounters.
Automatic fire will feel more unique at ranged to make the options feel distinct rather than universal. These changes were made to improve consistency without harming weapon diversity.
Smarter Player Movement and Audio Cues
Movement changes have been implemented to increase readability and responsiveness. Changes to acceleration curve, smoother vaulting animations, and ladder interactions should help with readability in close quarters.
Audio improvements are being implemented as well to help with player movement sounds and filtering of overlapping audio. This should help decrease incidents where enemies get behind you unnoticed during a firefight.
Plans Post Launch
As mentioned by Battlefield Studios, Labs testing will continue post Season 2 release. Future tests will include time-to-kill adjustments as well as additional testing on Golmud Railway, which will be introduced later this season.
Battlefield 6 is out now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Season 2 will launch on February 17.
