Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Season 1 extended, Season 2 delayed to February 17

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC Season 1 has been officially extended, with Season 2 now delayed until February 17. Here’s what the January update includes and what players can expect next.

EA and DICE have announced that Battlefield 6 and its free-to-play hub game, REDSEC, will begin the year off with a calendar shift. Season 1 has been extended well past its initial timeline, while Season 2 will not begin til February.

According to the announcement, this decision was made to focus on quality over quantity. This announcement was made after Battlefield‘s biggest launch ever in 2025, with millions of new and returning players experiencing the game.

Season 1 saw a lot of content arrive, consisting of REDSEC, Winter Offensive, California Resistance content, and patches. Instead of continuing to rush out content, the team has decided to take a little more time.

Season 1 extension details

Season 1 will no longer end on 20 January as originally planned. Instead, it will continue until 17 February 2026, when Season 2 officially launches. A Season 1 extension update will go live on 20 January, featuring:

  • New weekly challenges
  • A Bonus Path system
  • Continued progression for the existing Season 1 Battle Pass

Explaining why the delay happened

Developers addressed the community stating that player feedback, as well as internal testing, had identified areas of improvement for Season 2. Opting to not ship an unfinished product, the studio decided to delay the season further in order to ensure they would fulfill their promise of only releasing content that has been fully optimized.

Battlefield Labs will be utilized more

Battlefield Labs will be expanded upon and become the official public testing ground. This allows players to experience what late stage features will look like before they release while allowing developers to get player feedback sooner.

With fresh problems on the way and more transparency on the quality of development, Season 1 will have some left in the tank. Now players await until mid-February to see how Season 2 will affect the future of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC.
