The team behind Fortnite: Battle Royale skipped sitting on laurels and decided to shed some light on what's in the company pipeline at the moment. Of course, when talking about a game as complex as Battle Royale, there are too many changes to look at but we’ll try to keep it short and sweet.
The devs are internally testing a new shooting model, which is the current model tweaked to remove the random bullet spread when aiming down sights. The current plan is “to provide a test client and servers for you to provide feedback and iterate on this together with us in December.” Controls aim assist is also being tweaked to resemble other games on the market, so we’re guessing you can expect it to follow the shooting model.
Inventory is getting a major facelift, going for cleaner looks and simpler operation. Dragging items outside the inventory box will now drop them. We will also see shortcuts for splitting and dropping half the loot.
The game is looking to get a post match stats screen, which can be either a useful tool or in my case a clever number-based distraction from the urge to uppercut my display. Apparently there will be a lot more stats, so all sorts of players can find whatever stat will make them feel better. Just kidding, it’s my way of dealing with being a sub-par player.
As far as in-game environment goes, there will be new unique points of interest, filling out some of the currently empty spaces on the map. Some existing areas will get facelifts as well, making it easier for players to tell the regions apart from distance.
The devs are looking to add additional audio information to footsteps, providing cues on whether someone is walking on wood, metal, etc. Expect additional tweaks to teammate footsteps, trap and launch pad audio, gunshot audio panning and more.
Fortnite will also get limited time modes in December, which the developer says are “temporary experience with special conditions that provide new ways to play and allow us to run fun experiments. […] it’s going to be EPIC!”
There will also be server performance optimizations, in regards to providing players with an optimum gaming experience. The team is also pushing to implement extensive streaming, i.e. loading/streaming of content based on your proximity, something which is currently only performed for textures.
