Don't get your hopes up - the client update has nothing to do with Season 2 of Apex Legends per se, although it does set the stage for it in terms of data center improvements. PS4 and Xbox One owners will have to wait for Season 2 though.
Respawn said the reason why they chose to lead with PC is to thoroughly test the changes they're making before implementing them on the rest of the platforms.
If they prove to be successful, Apex Legends players on PS4 and Xbox One will be getting them once the Season 2 has kicked off.
And according to Respawn's current plan, Season 2 of Apex Legends launches on 02 July 2019 under the name Battle Charge.
As for the client update, Respawn are doing datacentre improvements, with ping-sorted lists and datacentres highlighted in orange.
Having faced some criticism in regards to Apex Legends netcode, Respawn are upping the rate at which user input is being sent to the servers.
Perhaps the most important part of the update is the Code: Leaf part, an error which made Respawn add more telemetry to assist them in identifying how this error comes about.
"You may start to get a code: net error instead of code: leaf. That is intended and part of the telemetry we added. We’ll be continuing to investigate this issue and it remains a priority", they wrote.
- Datacenter improvements to make the list easier to understand and use:
- List will be sorted by ping by default.
- The selected data centre will be highlighted in orange.
- Focused/hovered data centres will still be highlighted in grey.
- Right-clicking a data centre will no longer make it look selected
- Right click wouldn't actually select the data centre but would still highlight the selection which could be confusing.
- Clients will now send user input to the server at a higher rate.
