Apex Legends Global Series Split 1 Playoffs has been moved to an online regional competition format. The organisers made the decision based on the current global situation.

Apex Legends fans just got some not-so-happy news about the Apex Legends Global Series Split 1 Playoffs. The organisers have had to change the format of the competition at the eleventh hour because of the updated state of the ongoing pandemic.

An announcement was shared on the game's official website:

"Our priority is protecting our competitors, employees, tournament partner staff, and communities. As we continue to monitor the Covid-19 Omicron variant, review the continuously changing country-by-country travel restrictions, and digest the direction given to us by health officials (including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), we’ve concluded a global in-person January event with players travelling from as many as 40 countries is not possible."

However, the event will still happen but the Split 1 Playoffs will now feature five separate online tournaments. Each tournament will host the top 20 teams from the Split 1 Regular Season per region competing in a Match Point Series. The hefty prize pool of $1M USD has also been divided across the five regional events.

The organisers closed out the announcement with promises of more updates as soon as they are possible, more ALGS competitive event information and ensured the fans that they fully intend to return to LAN competition this May for the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs.
