Endix Expo, which just wrapped up a couple of days ago was a wonderful opportunity to check out some of the most exciting upcoming indies but at the same time get to experience a truly unique way to connect with other people and enjoy games in a fully digital space.
Since Endix is not as big as E3, Gamescom, Pax or other major events, here's a brief introduction. This is an all-digital event, but it wasn't hosted on Discord or via a specific program that publishers use when setting up these kinds of events. Instead, I've downloaded an installer and run Endix like a video game, and a video game I kinda got.
Once I fired up Endix, I was presented with a character creator, not the most detailed one, but I wasn't expecting that, truth be told. Five hours later, I hit start and found myself spawning into a massive city with futuristic buildings, neon signs, ads, and sign posts saying "To the expo".
After running around for a bit and checking out the AMD corner and playing with the massive graphic card that launches you into the air with its fans, I decided it's time to check out the actual event.
I head towards the great hall, enter the door, and I'm greeted with all these booths for the upcoming games. My eyes immediately set on The Alters both. It's a futuristic survival adventure-management game from 11 bit studios, who are known for the excellent city builder series Frostpunk.
As I enter the booth, I notice a very cool detail. The booth is designed to fit the aesthetic of the game, so I felt like I was inside the ship in the Alters. I immediately wanted to see what the dev team did for other booths, and I wasn't disappointed. Each booth had a theme representing the game, which is a really nice touch.
The selection of games was quite decent too, with well over 20 games to check out. And there was something from every genre. Be the action RPG, horror, colourful platformers, physics-based simulations, adventures, deck-builders and so on.
These demos don't come pre-installed with the Endix app, allowing you to choose which games you want to try out, which is a nice option since not every game on the list will be for everyone. Some people just can't handle horror games, others don't take an interest in platformers, and that's fine, but one thing is for certain - Endix hosts really had a great variety of titles to make sure everyone finds something to play.
Here's the list of all games that were present at Endix Expo:
- Mortal Crux
- Ayasa
- The Alters
- Tinkerlands
- The Knightling
- A-RED Walking Robot
- Bubble Ghost Remake
- Liftlands
- Antro
- Morkull Ragast's Rage

So, what's the key takeaway from such an event? Well, I think we need more expos like this. The industry's biggest publishers should aim to deliver something in a similar vein. I simply can't see a better way of connecting gamers across the globe for a couple of days. It's a very unique idea and an event that I hope will thrive in the coming years.
