In The Outer Worlds 2, the latest RPG shooter from Obsidian Entertainment, you'll have four gadgets in total, and the N-Ray gadget is the last one you'll obtain. Upon entering the N-Ray Range facility, you'll eventually get to a friendly, severely wounded NPC, and to progress further in this quest, she will inform you about the scanner you must obtain.
This scanner is mandatory, and you cannot miss it, but the game won't tell you where it is; to find it, you're going to have to explore the level for a bit and find some hidden nooks in it.
Once you obtain it, and we will show you how if you feel lost, you'll be prompted to solve an electrical door puzzle located right next to a wounded NPC. If this gadget and this puzzle are giving you a hard time, here is a guide that will lead you through this part of the quest step-by-step.
How to solve the first door puzzle in the N-Ray Range
To find the N-Ray gadget, look exactly behind the NPC's back, and you'll see an improvised wall with a vent entrance behind it. Enter this vent and follow it throughout; you'll come across the electrical trap, so be aware not to get fried. Once you exit the vents, you'll be inside the room with the gadget. The game will explain to you how to use it, and once you kill two invisible enemies and make your way back to the NPC, it is time to solve the door puzzle.
The N-Ray gadget will be selected automatically, so just press the LB button to activate it. You'll see the wires leading away from the door to a hidden room to its right. Follow the wires and enter the hidden room through the vents on the other side.
This puzzle can be tricky because you must memorise the switches' positions as you see them in a mirror because you can actually observe them only from the other side of the wall. However, if this positioning is confusing you, we will show you the right sequence you should enter.
You will find eight switches arranged in four columns of two switches each. The correct sequence is first row bottom switch, second row top switch, and fourth row bottom switch (check out the picture above for reference). Once you set them like this, the door will open.
DON'T MISS!
