Being an RPG title true and true, The Outer Worlds 2, the latest shooter from Obsidian Entertainment, shares many similar mechanics to this genre, including many locked safes that require keys or a certain amount of lockpicks and some other items to bypass their security.
The first such safe you'll come across is located inside Incognito, a ship you wake up on after being in hibernation for ten years. Once you get briefed thoroughly by Valerie and get full control of your body, you'll be able to explore the ship for a bit, and exploring will definitely lead you to a commander's cabin where the safe in question is located.
Once you interact with it, you'll notice that for you to open it, you'll need the Commander's Safe Key or four lockpicks and one mag-pick. The easiest way is to locate the Commander's Key, of course, and if you don't know where to find it, we have the answer to this question.
Where is the Commander's Safe Key located in The Outer Worlds 2
If, by any chance, you don't know where to find the safe, it is located inside the Commander's room. As you exit the cockpit, where Niles stands, turn left and enter the first room to your left. The safe is in the left corner of the room, behind a bed.
To locate the key, exit the room and follow the path to the left. Ignore all the rooms you can enter; you won't find a thing inside them. Just head all the way to the back of the ship, and eventually, you'll reach the reactor room.
Behind the reactor, there are some cables you need to crouch to pass beneath, so go ahead and do so. Once on the back of the reactor, look behind a railing and you'll see the Commander's Safe Key. Take it and get back to the safe. Open it to find some interesting loot containing some ammo, upgrade materials, and the special card.
