Ghost of Yotei, the latest action-adventure from Sucker Punch, follows pretty much the same formula of discovering the collectables as its predecessor. Still, this time, instead of following good old question marks, you'll have to figure out on your own how to find certain items because the game won't tell you anything regarding this topic.
While it is a very commendable feature that pushes our adventurous spirit way harder than the previous game, finding some collectables can be a real pain in the neck, especially if you haven't played Ghost of Tsushima or you have but haven't paid enough attention to how certain collectables were discovered earlier.
The collectables that will give you the hardest time while trying to find them are, without doubt, Ainu items, the special relics you'll be collecting that are connected to the group of people called Ainu (the ones that live all the way to the north on the map).
If finding those collectables poses a problem for you, we have a guide that will show you how to find them very easily, following a simple mechanic that you probably didn't know existed in the first place.
How to find Ainu items in Ghost of Yotei
If you came across one of those items by chance, the "findings" tab inside the inventory will become available, and you'll find out that you'll need to find 30 of those items to complete a collection, which will unlock the necessary upgrade for certain armour.
The rest of the things you can find on the map can be discovered either by coming across them, locating them through the spyglass, or buying the map that reveals their location; however, none of those methods works with Ainu items, so how to locate them?
While exploring Ezo, you'll come across a firefly that will start following you from time to time. This firefly emits green light and is sometimes very difficult to notice, especially during the day. However, once the firefly appears, your controller will vibrate slightly, which will be the sign that that firefly is "the" firefly.
Follow it, and as you're coming closer to the item, it will start blinking faster. Once you notice the item and pick it up, it will disappear. Once you come across the blinking firefly again, do the same thing. Later in the game, you'll come across a musician inside the Tokachi Range who will give you a side quest to follow him to the Nayoro Wilds.
Once you find him there, you'll compose the Song of the Ainu with him, and playing this song will activate the wind that will steer you in the direction of the next Ainu item. Once you come close, the firefly will appear. Using this tactic, you'll soon find all 30 of the Ainu items available in the game, which will give you the necessary upgrade to be able to easily find all other collectables in the game.
