In terms of exploration, Dead Island 2 is a fairly straightforward game. The new weaponry and weapon upgrades will be connected to everything you discover during the game. It appears that devs from Deep Silver were not too concerned with properly concealing items in Dead Island 2's levels. Since killing zombies is sheer delight, their main focus was on enjoyable zombie encounters, and no one can hold this against them.
However, from time to time, the game will send you on a mission and give you only general directions on where this mission might take place, highlighting the entire area, and your job will be to find that specific place.

Even though you can track every place and point of interest on the in-game map in Dead Island 2, the map navigation is sometimes quite confusing. During the story mission "The Search for Truth," you will first use Scope, a supercomputer that will help you obtain some useful information about your missions and environment.
Using Scope, you will get an image of the entrance to the secret lab you will have to find in order to progress further through the game. If you look at the image closely, you will notice a parked white van with a satellite dish installed on its roof. Since there are a lot of vans in this area, none of them has a satellite dish, so if you find one with one, you are in the right place.
If you are still having trouble finding the van, simply head for the northeast part of the map, as it is shown on the image below.

Be aware, though; some serious encounters await you before and after you find the entrance to the secret lab, so make sure to arm yourself well before heading in this direction.
