As you delve into the immersive realm of Pandora in Ubisoft's latest first-person shooter, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, you may find yourself in a perilous situation. Periodically, you'll become the target of a formidable predator. When this creature launches an attack, your focus is disrupted, and the sides of the screen start turning white, accompanied by the protagonist's escalating heartbeat, intensifying the tension in the game.
For those acquainted with Pandora from previous films, the identity of this creature is well known. However, for the uninitiated, the creature is called Thanator—an apex predator and arguably the most perilous creature on Pandora.
This guide provides insights on how to handle encounters with this perilous stalker and ultimately conquer the challenge.
How to defeat Thanator
Upon the initial encounter with the Thanator, the game affords you ample time to reassess the situation and determine the wisdom of engaging in combat. If your combat strength is below 19, engaging in the fight may likely result in an inglorious defeat.
Whenever your screen begins to whiten and you experience a loss of focus, it's advisable to retreat if your combat strength is insufficient. However, if you're at a suitable level and inclined to confront this creature, we'll disclose the location where you can readily find it. It is worth noting that killing Thanator (non-feral) will award you with the No Easy Pray trophy/achievement; therefore, it is highly likely that, once you're able, you will want to find it and kill it.
Use fast travel to reach Drill Tower Alpha, located in the Cascading Stones area of the Clouded Forest region. The tower is positioned slightly to the west of Ensnared Lake on the map. Upon arriving at the fast travel point, proceed towards the prominent large tree southeast of Drill Tower Alpha and south of Ensnared Lake. For an accurate reference, refer to the map image provided above.
Upon reaching the big tree, linger in the vicinity until the Thanator emerges. At levels 19 or 20, defeating it becomes more manageable, as it will now require multiple hits to cause harm. Circle around the tree; use the trampoline plants to create distance. Employ the heavy bow, aiming for the neck as it is a vulnerable point—two or three arrows should suffice. After defeating the Thanator, be sure to collect the rare materials it drops, valuable for contaminating both weapons and crafting unique dishes.
