If you've been exploring the early forest area in Alan Wake 2, chances are that you've stumbled upon many red boxes hanging on the light poles.
Some of these red boxes can be opened and contain valuable items like batteries and healing items but you'll also find some that are locked tightly with a padlock.
In this guide, we'll explain how you can unlock these red boxes and get your hands on valuable items.
How to open red utility boxes with padlocks in Alan Wake 2?
Before you start wandering around the forests looking for a key you'll probably want to know that you cannot open these early in the game. To be more precise, you won't be able to open red boxes with padlocks until you reach Watery and its Coffee World park.
You'll travel to Watery in the early-mid game and once you get to the amusement park, the game will tell you to get into the Gift Shop and find a key item. Getting into the Gift Shop is a bit tricky as the door is locked with, you guessed it, a padlock!

To open the door, you'll need a Screwdriver, which can be found at The Percolator, the ride decorated with yellow neon lights. The Screwdriver can be used to open all doors with padlocks and of course, open those red boxes!
And that's pretty much it. Keep in mind that Alan Wake 2 has a lot of locked areas and doors early in the game that you won't be able to unlock until later in the game when you get your hands on the right tools.
