Techland have officially announced that their upcoming zombie survival horror Dying Light 2 will release on the next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Dying Light 2 will also launch on the current generation consoles and PC.

Not a lot has been said about the upcoming zombie survival horror Dying Light 2, ever since the developer and publisher Techland revealed the game at last years' E3 expo. Last month, at E3 2019, Techland revealed new gameplay footage, but it looks like the devs are focusing on the actual development rather than interviews, which is of course, pretty reasonable since the game doesn't even have a specific release date yet.

However, today, the devs revealed that Dying Light 2 will be a cross-gen title, meaning that it's coming to both Sony's and Microsoft's new consoles. Of course, Dying Light 2 will still release on current-gen consoles - PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - and PC.

At the moment, both Microsoft and Sony are yet to reveal their consoles, meaning that there is nothing official regarding the release date. Some earlier rumours and reports claim that late 2020 could be the target release window for the new consoles so expect Dying Light 2 on the next-gen hardware shortly after that. It's also possible that Dying Light 2 becomes one of the launch titles for the new consoles, but this is just a wild guess.

Speaking about their decision to bring Dying Light 2 to next-gen platforms, Pawel Rohleder, Chief Technical Officer at Techland said that the studio had this in mind since the beginning of development. "The plan since the beginning of production has been to make Dying Light 2 a cross-generation title," Rohleder said.

The next-gen version of Dying Light 2 should bring a couple of improvements, mostly in terms of graphics and higher frame rates. It will be interesting to see if the game will look noticeably better on PC than on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It's possible that the PC version will be close to the next-gen in terms of visuals.

Dying Light is scheduled to release sometime in 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
