Manchester United and Konami have announced a partnership on the latter's football simulation game eFootball PES 2020, and they're promising a state-of-the-art recreation of United's legendary home grounds, Old Trafford, in all its glory.
"Created using state-of-the-art technology, the game boasts the most detailed recreation of the club's famous Old Trafford stadium seen yet. The current squad have also been created using a full-body 3D scanning process, providing players of the game with ultra-realistic avatars of their favourite United stars", it says on the club's website.
As you probably noticed, Konami are slowly ramping up their approach to what is realistically the only, and according to some a better football simulation than FIFA series, even if the eFootball PES 2020 name is a bit confused. I mean, is it football or soccer Konami?
eFootball PES 2020 comes with realistic scans of Manchester United's squad, but there will be some legends like David Beckham and the beloved Three-lung Park Ji Sung.
Scott McTominay is the game's ambassador, which is perhaps fitting for a club with a distinguished tradition of youth, but eFootball PES 2020 will have a Manchester Club Legend Edition of the game ready for at launch as well.
McTominay said, "It’s a real honour for me, and I'm really excited to get the partnership underway. I've been playing the game a lot and the graphics look absolutely amazing."
PES 2020 brings improvements in ball physics, ball trapping and defending, as well as new skills, like the finesse dribble, which has been developed with midfielder Andres Iniesta, formerly of Barcelona.
Konami threw in an added level of complexity to long balls, which will be dependent on more factors and therefore a thing of skill and timing, not unlike what's required from actual midfielders, only with much more running.
We can only hope that eFootball PES 2020 will drive Manchester United to some actual results on the pitch, but until then it won't hurt to remind ourselves of the team's golden generation in-game.
