Avalanche Studios and Square Enix have launched an interactive map for their upcoming shooter Just Cause 4 and Solis, the fictional South American country, spans some 1024 square kilometres for Rico Rodriguez to grapple-hook around on.
In terms of size alone, Just Cause 4's map is about the same as the one in Just Cause 3. However, when it comes to playable area, meaning the landmass, Square Enix and Avalanche Studios have got themselves a new winner.
A large chunk of its predecessor's map was just water, while Just Cause 4's playable area pretty much spans the entire map. More land means more fooling around with the updated grappling hook, ensuring that players in charge of Rico's new adventures don't get bored.
As you can see, the map has four distinct biomes, which are best seen when zoomed out fully. There's a desert-ish area on the left, the mountains in the middle, lush forests on the right and hillside on the bottom. I'm not sure whether the river delta on the top right is considered a biome but if yes, then there's five.
Having seen bits and pieces of the map up close from earlier trailers, including the one where Rico actually chases a tornado, Just Cause 4 promises to significantly amplify its predecessor's fun factor. The franchise is notable for letting you pull off pretty much anything you can think up, so we've just had a boost in what you can actually think up.
Just Cause 4 is shaping up to be a visual spectacle as well, not least for making Solis look like a place you'd truly want to explore. I'm guessing that the bottom part of the map is where temples will be situated, so if you're feeling particularly Indiana Jones-y on the day, you know where to head for. Thankfully, Avalanche Studios only borrowed from actual historical sites this time.
You can find the interactive map on Square Enix's website here or if you're hungry for more, you can check out the game's E3 gameplay showcase and the latest tornado chasing exploits of good ol' Rico.
Just Cause 4 launches on 04 December 2018 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
