In a recent turn of events, French law enforcement has apprehended five former employees of Ubisoft, reigniting a scandal surrounding sexual assault and harassment allegations that initially surfaced over two years ago in 2020.

French police arrested five former Ubisoft employees this week for sexual assault and harassment allegations made well over two years ago, back in 2020.

The French newspaper Libération first reported that police detained two chief executives on Wednesday, while another three were arrested the previous day following a year-long investigation into company employees’ allegations.

The first mention of this case was in 2020, when the first claims of sexual misconduct occurred. Due to this, several senior executives stepped down from their roles.

Former chief creative officers Serge Hascoët and Tommy François were those who were accused back in 2020 and have now been arrested this week.

Serge Hascoët has subsequently stepped down from his position, and Tommy François was immediately placed on disciplinary leave due to the accusations in 2020.

Both of the men had been accused of forcibly trying to kiss a young female at an office party. The young woman, aged 22, was very vocal about the incident and went on to say that HR knew about the harassment going on at the workplace and that this was the first time in her career that she had seen such systematic enabling of harassment.

In May of 2021, Ubisoft released a press release where they addressed the incident and had this to say:

"Following the allegations of misconduct, we set up several channels via which team members can report inappropriate behaviour, including a platform that guarantees anonymity.

All reports are received and treated by an independent external partner to guarantee impartiality. The initial reports led us to launch a series of investigations, and based on their outcomes, we took appropriate actions, including training, disciplinary sanctions, and dismissals."
