The next Xbox console could be coming sooner than expected according to trusted industry insider and dataminer Kepler. In a thread on social media X, Kepler suggested that the next Xbox "isn't that far away" and may come before PlayStation 6, which is rumoured to be launching in 2028.
At the moment, it's unknown if Kepler refers to a proper next-gen console or just a "Pro" model that would include some notable improvements but nothing drastically different or more powerful to be considered next-gen.
The insider jokes that The Elder Scrolls 6 may not even launch on the current-gen consoles Xbox Series X|S as it's still years away and Xbox will have a new console ready by the time Bethesda launch their fantasy RPG.
Kepler also reveals that the all-digital circular console that leaked in FTC documents could be cancelled. This would mean that Microsoft had a major change of plans but until we get an official confirmation, take everything with a grain of salt.
If this inside info is indeed correct then it would be a very bold move from Microsoft that has both pros and cons. On one hand, launching a more powerful console before PlayStation 6 could help with console sales especially if they have some big titles ready for launch alongside the console.
On the other hand, it may be risky since Sony would basically have two extra years to improve their hardware and come up with a much more powerful console. But on the other hand, Xbox could release a mid-gen update and come on top again.
The possibilities are many, and we are really excited to see how exactly this pans out. Add the potential release of Nintendo Switch 2 and we could be getting a new console every two years.
