Insomniac Games have been a target of a massive ransomware attack a couple of days ago which resulted in many of their internal and confidential files leaking online.
Leaked content includes a fully playable build of Marvel's Wolverine, a ton of concept art for the studio's upcoming games, roadmaps, various presentations, documents and slides.
In one of the leaked slides which surfaced on Reddit, Insomniac Games presented their visual target for Wolverine in the Photogrammetry category. The slide explains how the studio aims to use real-world scan data to create realistic characters and includes Hellblade 2's protagonist Senua as one of the examples of the level of realism they are aiming for.
Insomniac's slide also noted how the developers can use 4D scan data to create "life-like" materials, render them in the game engine and then artistically adjust the models to create memorable and compelling characters.
Ninja Theory recently showcased some pretty spectacular character models in the new Hellblade 2 trailer which aired at The Game Awards. The studio always talked about their goals to achieve the most realistic visuals ever by using motion capture and photogrammetry, which is something that Insomniac Games will also be doing for Marvel's Wolverine.
Obviously, Sony's first-party studios have been world-class in this field for many years with games like Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part 2 and the God of War series to name a few. Insomniac Games too been top of the line when it comes to character models too but it seems like the studio are aiming to get to that next level of visual fidelity with Marvel's Wolverine.
It's interesting that the studio included the screenshot from Xbox exclusive Hellblade 2 of all the PlayStation heroes out there. It's surely a massive recognition of Ninja Theory's talent and efforts, which is why Microsoft acquired the studio in the first place.
