Not long after 2K Games confirmed the rumoured cancellation of WWE 2K21, the company updated the fans with some important info for the future of the franchise.

With everything that's been going on with the franchise, including the fiasco that was the launch of WWE 2K20, 2K Games' official statement is probably the least that the faithful fans deserved. Many silently hoped the dev will bring back Battlegrounds, and their wish will be coming true.

"We’re thrilled to introduce you to WWE 2K Battlegrounds, a completely new WWE gaming experience that will feature arcade-style action and over-the-top Superstar designs, environments and moves. We’re focusing on social pick-up-and-play fun, but with plenty of depth for those who want to get way into it", the company wrote.

Unlike 2K20, which was handled by Visual Concepts, WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be developed by Saber Interactive, the studio behind NBA 2K Playgrounds and World War Z. According to the announcement, they're already hard at work, and the coming months should bring more info.

2K Games also wrote they appreciate the feedback for WWE 2K20 and vowed to continue to polish the game. They also stressed that WWE 2K19 servers will keep running.

As for the next WWE 2K instalment, Visual Concepts have bolstered their ranks with new executive producer in Patrick Gilmore but will be skipping the 2021 edition of the game. 2K Games is certain the added time will allow the team to make the best game possible.
