Where Winds Meet announced today that its second expansion, Imperial Palace, launches May 28. The new region adds dozens of miles of new area, thousands of NPCs, and improvements to PS5 Pro support.
Head of publishing Eric Zheng says the update brings players into the Kaifeng Imperial Palace, a one million-plus square metre royal court. That area will contain over 3,000 interactive NPCs, as well as activities, combat encounters, and narrative elements centred around espionage and political drama.
Visitors will arrive at the palace amid a quest to uncover secrets, before joining forces with the Office of Martial and Virtue, an intelligence organisation situated inside the palace.
PS5 Pro Gets Ray Tracing and Upgraded PSSR Support
Where Winds Meet will also get several PS5 Pro-specific improvements. Ray-traced reflections have been added to the game to improve water surfaces in the palace.
Developers say ponds, moats, and other water in the palace grounds will reflect lanterns, clouds, and character movement. Where Winds Meet will make use of improved PSSR tech on PS5 Pro for crisper visuals with better temporal stability. Small details like roofs, lanterns, ceilings, and decorations should pop more.
Developers noted a decrease in ghosting and flickering during movement, running on rooftops, and whipping the camera around when searching for clues.
Performance-wise, the studio is targeting PS5 Pro players to maintain 60 FPS while exploring, attending massive courtyard gatherings, and during hectic boss battles.
Outside of the main narrative, players can enjoy side-content like cricket fighting, ice romping, prison break mini-games, and finding hidden martial arts monks. Additional world bosses were added in Where Winds Meet, such as Silken Wrath and Royal Kitten.
