Wasteland 3 was originally slated for a 2019 release but some setbacks and Microsoft acquisition probably contributed to the 2020 delay. We will, however, get a lot more info and some fans will get to play it as soon as 21 August 2019.
Wasteland 3 Alpha build is coming in roughly two weeks from the time of writing as inXile Entertainment announced the first occasion on which the fans will be able to play the game.
This access is reserved only for those who backed Wasteland 3 on Fig so don't get your hopes up of giving it a spin otherwise. Not yet at least. Following the Alpha build, there will be an early access period but inXile didn't specify when it might happen.
Considering this is an early build, the developers warned players not to expect a polished experience. Compatibility issues, performance and crashes are to be expected.
Furthermore, the early build will wall off some of the features, such as skill and perk menus as well as the multiplayer, which we are sure not many people will miss initially. Wasteland series has, after all, been a singleplayer experience so far.
The Alpha build will contain some combat situations though as the Rangers venture to deal with the Psychopath, one of the Patriarch's children. For those who don't remember, Patriarch is the person who called the Rangers to help him, following the family bickering over his frozen empire.
One of the most interesting parts is probably that the Ranger vehicle will be in the playable Alpha build, offering players a way to experience the new mechanic.
Players who get access to the Alpha build will need to use the access key only once since the same entry will transition into Steam Early Access.

Those who prefer to get a GOG key will not be impacted but they will miss out on Early Access apparently.
Fans who have been waiting years to get a glimpse of Wasteland 3 will be able to do so on 21 August 2019 via YouTube, Twitch or various forums since there will be no NDA on the Alpha build.
