Vampyr has gone gold, meaning it's ready for launch

Dontnod Entertainment posted that their upcoming blood sucking simulator, known as the RPG title called Vampyr is now gold, meaning that there will be no delays in releasing the game for PC, Xbox One and PS4 on schedule, come 5 June 2018.

Dontnod have the gold status over their Facebook page, one day before the anniversary of their successfully Episode 3: Chaos Theory for Life is Strange, which is the title that brought attention to the studio. It's arguable that Remember Me was the first title responsible for the spotlight, but its success is dwarfed by Life is Strange's popularity.

Regardless of Dontnod's chicken or the egg analogy, the studio is known for placing its games into rather unique settings. Story content has been intriguing so far, with players and reviewers praising the narrative of their games. Considering that is not as original as Arcadia Bay or Neo-Paris may put a shadow of doubt in observers' minds but the story and voice acting so far hasn't shown any glaring weaknesses.

Just like Life is Strange, Vampyr will put players in many moral dilemmas, with the main one being whether to murder civilians in order to feed. There is also the slight issue of Dr. Reid being an actual doctor, which means he took the Hippocratic Oath. It might be somewhat hard to keep ethics up when your survival instinct kicks in and the only way to feed is to murder another person.

While Dr. Reid will evolve powers as he feeds through the game, he lacks the one Max in Life is Strange had - the power to rewind time. This means that killing an NPC will permanently delete them from the game, and depending on how important they were to their city district, players might inadvertently trigger a collapse of the entire district.

It will be interesting to see how Vampyr handles this feature and whether any NPCs will be "essential" like in Bethesda's Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series.
