Sony today officially confirmed that they will be rolling out PlayStation VR2 PC support on August 7, 2024. The Japanese tech giant will also ship the necessary PC adapter that will allow players to use a PlayStation VR 2 device to play Steam VR titles.
The special adapter will be available for an estimated retail price of $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 at select retailers and direct.playstation.com in supported countries. Sony say this release will allow players to buy and play VR games on Steam with PS VR 2 including hits like Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, and War Thunder.
There are some requirements like a DisplayPort cable which is sold separately and your PC needs to meet the minimum specs, which you can check out below.
Here are the minimum PC specs for PS VR 2 on PC:
- Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit / Windows 11 64-bit
- Processor: Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later architecture is required)
- RAM: 8 GB or more
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later architecture is required)-NVIDIA RTX series-AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later / AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later(For the best performance, we recommend that you use an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or later or AMD Radeon RX 6600XT or later graphics card)
- DisplayPort: DisplayPort 1.4 (must have a standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output port)
- USB: Direct connection only
- Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0 or later
Sony say that the setup is fairly easy. You simply need to connect PlayStation VR2 to your PC using the adapter and DisplayPort cable, download the PS VR2 and SteamVR app from Steam, customise your settings and that's pretty much it.
There will be some differences between using the PS VR2 on PC and PlayStation 5, though. Some features like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback won't be available when playing on PC.
However, Sony promise that features like including 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, see-through view, foveated rendering (without eye tracking) and 3D Audio in supported games will work properly.
