The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt isn’t over yet. At least, it might not be. A new analyst report is claiming that CD Projekt RED is working on a brand-new DLC for the beloved RPG as a precursor to The Witcher 4.
If it’s true, it’s a potentially surprising but very welcome piece of news for one of the last generation’s most loved games. A report from Polish publication Strefa Inwestorów quotes Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski as saying a new major expansion for The Witcher 3 is in the works and will launch in May 2026.
The timing would coincide with the 11-year anniversary of the game’s release and be one of the first steps in drumming up hype for the next entry in the series, which is expected to arrive in 2027.
A new DLC to connect The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4
The report indicates the DLC would serve as a narrative bridge between The Witcher 3 and a future sequel. The Witcher 4’s transition from Geralt of Rivia to a new protagonist, Ciri, is likely to be a major shift from a story perspective. This expansion would smooth the transition in that regard.
Much has been wrapped up for Geralt in Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, but there’s still room to continue Ciri’s journey. A future DLC could include:
- Her training and development since the events of The Witcher 3
- Story events that directly lead into The Witcher 4
- A greater understanding of the world after Geralt
Longtime fans could adjust to the series’ new direction before getting completely immersed in The Witcher 4.
Pricing, platforms, and development rumours
Chrzanowski’s prediction on The Witcher 4 expansion also includes some practical details:
- Expected price: around $30
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
- Release window: May 2026
The DLC is said to be led by Fool’s Theory, the studio currently working on the remake of the original The Witcher. The team reportedly includes several developers with Witcher title experience in their past, making them a natural fit for taking on additional story content.
CD Projekt RED has not confirmed the DLC, so all of these details are, for now, pure speculation.
