The Witcher 4

The Witcher 4 is an open-world action RPG developed and published by CD Projekt Red, targeting a 2028 release window for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The first mainline Witcher game since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015) and the opening chapter of a planned new trilogy, it was officially unveiled at The Game Awards in December 2024 via a six-minute cinematic trailer that confirmed Ciri as the playable protagonist, continuing directly from the events of The Witcher 3.

Built on Unreal Engine 5 rather than CD Projekt Red's proprietary REDengine, the game entered full production in late 2024 and represents the studio's largest and most complex development to date. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the 2028 window ahead of Gamescom 2026, describing it as the studio's "biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date."

Ciri is voiced by Ciara Berkeley and begins the game already established as a fully trained Witcher, carrying the sword Zireael in what canonises The Witcher 3's Witcher ending. Unlike Geralt, whose personality was largely defined by the series, Ciri is positioned as a more malleable protagonist, with meaningful player choices shaping her morality, skills, and relationships throughout the story. Her Elder Blood magic integrates directly with traditional Witcher combat, and the game features a companion system, romance options, and character-driven subplots. Geralt of Rivia will appear in the game, voiced by returning actor Doug Cockle, in a role the studio has described as a passing of the torch. New locations not previously seen in the game series are confirmed, including the northern region of Kovir.
