Rogue Planet Games announced The Shattered Gate update for PlanetSide 2 that could potentially revitalise the player base for the game.
PlanetSide 2 today is a far cry from what it was at the game's peak but it's still trucking on with enough concurrent players to fill out massive maps at any given time of the day. Player base fluctuations happen and it's not a downward trend as some updates and promotions bring in many new or numerous old players back. March 2020 and the Escalation update serve as a good example.
Rogue Planet Games are now attempting to pull a similar manoeuvre with The Shattered Warpgate, an upcoming update that will be free of charge so it will not split the players with a paywall.
The update will apparently help evolve the battlefields in PlanetSide 2 through Campaigns, which will be open-world storytelling experiences. Each campaign will see players participating in new missions and see more of the story as it comes along with each new chapter.
While there is no exact release date for The Shattered Warpgate, Rogue Planet Games did note that the update will soon be playable on the Public Test Server.
Unlike Escalation, this update will not just target the veterans but a much broader audience, according to RPG. Furthermore, there will be new weapons and equipment, social hub improvements, outfit resource rebalancing and restructuring of several major bases on Indar.
The devs are planning a reveal on their Twitch channel on August 28, 2020, at 11:00 AM PDT / 6:00 PM UTC.
