Dotemu went almost all out for Gamescom 2019 as they released a new trailer for Streets of Rage 4, announcing a brand new character, Cherry Hunter, and teasing one familiar face that was not actually a protagonist of the series - Shiva.
Adam Hunter and Sammy "Skate" Hunter will most likely no return in Streets of Rage 4 but the Hunter family will still have a member on the roster. It is thanks to the newcomer, Cherry Hunter who is the daughter of Adam and by extension, Skate's niece.
As the story goes, Cherry used to dream of following in her father's footsteps by joining the law enforcement but those dreams soon faded out as her love for music started emerging. She is now a member of an electro progressive rock band and her guitar seems to be her signature weapon.
Just like Axel and Blaze received new abilities, it is assumed Cherry will have plenty of her own, some of which are displayed in the trailer above as she rocks through the thugs that need beating down.
Cherry is seen preparing to battle an awfully familiar figure at the 0:24 time stamp in the video above. Fans immediately recognised the man as Shiva, a boss that appeared in Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3 as a boss. He was also a secretly unlockable character in the third instalment which prompted the fans to speculate we might be able to play as Shiva in Streets of Rage 4 as well.
There two characters that are still not revealed but you can see their silhouettes at 0:38 in the video. One character looks like a man with a cybernetic arm and awfully reminiscent of Doomfist from Overwatch.
The other silhouette is barely shown though, behind all the other four characters and partially cut out by the screen frame but the bits that are visible could clearly fit the looks of Shiva so he is not off the table as a playable character yet.
