Sonic the Hedgehog has met an untimely end, leaving it up to his friends to solve the mystery.

April's Fools drag all types of kooky and unexpected changes into video games, franchises and environments but from time to time, someone overdoes themselves and delivers a masterpiece.

This year, it was SEGA , with The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog as they released a proper game just before April 1, 2023, where the players attempt to figure out what happened and why Sonic is dead.

The game itself is free to download but it is unclear how long it will stick around since it is a seasonal joke after all.

In order to claim The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, simply go to the store page for your platform and download it to start playing.

The game is currently sitting on 97 per cent positive reviews on Steam which paints a pretty neat picture of the players' experience so far and since it costs nothing, it would be highly suggested you give it a shot.

On top of everything else, the game will run on extremely old hardware as the system requirements are best described as humble, with a 2.0 GHz dual-core CPU being among the specs.

So if you are wondering if there is anything canon about the game, SEGA did leave a breadcrumb that "everything is canon" but also added they "strongly believe in the power of headcanon".
