This asymmetrical multiplayer horror game features 3 players as "the Accused" surviving traps while 1 player controls "The Judge" who manipulates the environment

SAW: Genesis has entered Closed Alpha testing. Developers Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios announced today that registration for the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game’s first playtest has begun.

Set to start on July 16, players will have the opportunity to access the Closed Alpha well before its Early Access release later this year. SAW: Genesis was first announced at Summer Game Fest earlier this year. The beta test comes just before SAW: Genesis will appear at Gamescom for attendees to play.

Ahead of its Closed Alpha testing, developer Broken Mirror Games shared new details about what players can expect from its survival horror game.

About SAW: Genesis

SAW: Genesis puts 3 players in the role of the Accused, characters tasked with surviving deadly traps and overcoming challenging moral choices. The remaining player controls The Judge, which manipulates traps and elements throughout the maze-like map. Inspired by the events following World War I, matches will take place over procedurally-generated levels.

This means that every game will introduce a new map layout, spreading enemies and items across the stage to create new opportunities for players. The Closed Alpha will include a formalized onboarding process for players. Testing participants were determined by survey-based application process with the hopes of vetting a varied group of players to better polish the game.

Beta keys and server access has been distributed in phases since July 10, with players queuing into matches as groups of up to 3 Accused before being matched with the lone Judge player to finish the round.

Broken Mirror Games says player feedback will be used to improve multiplayer balancing, bugs and technical performance, fundamental gameplay elements, and the development of the game’s meta. Future tests will take place before Early Access as testers are gradually increased.
