Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has had a successful Steam release so far, boasting close to 100k concurrent players just hours after release. However, despite the staggering numbers, players are giving the remake a “Mixed” user score due to issues regarding monetisation and multiple design choices.
Steam released data showing that Black Flag Resynced peaked at 99,451 concurrent players. This already eclipses the all-time Steam concurrent viewer count of Assassin’s Creed Shadows which sits at 64,825.
Players have praised Black Flag Resynced for updating what many consider to be one of the best entries in the series. However, several user reviews have pointed out major concerns.
Why Are Players Giving Mixed Reviews?
So far, only about 45% of Steam users are saying they would recommend this game. Major criticisms include Ubisoft’s monetisation tactics post-launch.
While the Deluxe Edition comes with some cosmetic bonuses players immediately receive upon purchase, players soon found that there were multiple DLC packs they needed to buy to unlock content they assumed would be included.
These packs include:
- Three extra Character Packs
- Three extra Naval Packs
- One Map Pack
Costing $10 for each Character/Naval Pack and $5 for the Map Pack, players have said that the game doesn’t feel finished at all considering the cost of the “Deluxe” Edition.
Players have also noted technical and quality-of-life issues such as:
- Locked 30 FPS during cutscenes
- The menus were redesigned and many players don’t find them as user-friendly
- Changes to gameplay from the original 2013 version
That being said, not all criticisms have been negative. Some players have praised the updated combat in the remake and also appreciated the removal of the present-day Animus scenes from the original game. However, some players prefer the original.
