Platinum Games and Microsoft could renew their partnership according to the latest rumours coming from insider extas1s, who has a reliable track record when it comes to revealing Xbox-related information.
The insider claims that according to his sources, Scalebound developers Platinum Games have approached Microsoft to publish and finance their next game, which would obviously be an Xbox exclusive.
At this point, this is just a rumour, so definitely don't take the information as set in stone, especially since it does not come from the industry's biggest sources. The insider also said that he is not aware whether this deal will go through, only that Platinum Games want to work with Xbox again.
If Microsoft indeed decide to work with Platinum Games again, it's safe to say it would probably have to be under different terms than years ago when Platinum was supposed to deliver Scalebound.
You may recall that Platinum head Atsushi Inaba said Platinum Games "didn’t do all of the things that we needed to do as a developer" with Scalebound, which was probably too ambitious for its own good.
Scalebound director Hideki Kamiya also revealed that the studio were simply not experienced enough to create such a game. However, he still believes Xbox and Platinum should work together to revive this action adventure, though.
Of course, it's entirely possible that Platinum and Microsoft team up for a completely different game, a new IP perhaps, which would probably mean that Scalebound is dead as a doornail unless...Microsoft end up acquiring Platinum Games.
The company has been on the prowl for Japanese studios to bolster their Xbox Game Studios but whether that's still the case now that they have two publishers in Bethesda and Activision Blizzard under their umbrella, it remains to be seen.
MORE XBOX:
- NIS America games could be coming to Xbox soon, it's claimed
- Hideo Kojima's Xbox exclusive is "almost certainly" called Overdose
- A new Banjo-Kazooie game might be in development
All in all, Platinum Games and Xbox partnership would certainly excite many Xbox fans but let's wait and see if this rumour comes to fruition before starting the hype train.
