This has been a year full of surprises regarding League of Legends 2025, and not all of them have been embraced with wide-open arms.
More recently, Riot Games is at gunpoint in the eyes of the community after a change to BE (Blue Essence) and account progression systems was brought in. In an overall move to shift rewards over to Battle Pass, changes have significantly reduced how much Blue Essence and experience points players earn.
League of Legends had arguably one of the most content-filled seasons last year, and seems to be carrying that momentum over into the new year with some huge additions in the form of a Noxus-themed Summoner's Rift, Atakhan - a new epic monster that respawns turrets, new boots and the Feats of Strength system. That being said, some changes are cool, but there's definitely frustration towards a reworked rewards system.
Other changes
Other major changes include removing a lot of the free Hextech chests, making the probability for earning free skins even lower than before.
Champion capsules, which came with leveling before, are locked behind the Battle Pass. Leveling an account is way slower, which, in turn makes the process even more challenging. What's worse, acquiring champions with Blue Essence has never been harder.
Riot have now reacted through a Developer Update where such issues took the floor with necessary milestones and increased such rewards of 4,750 BE.
That gets upgraded to 9000 BE for improving and building solid epilogue reward boosts starting from 50BE hiked up from 750.
XP rewards also increased by 40% so that players can reach ranked play faster. These changes will be live on January 23 via Patch 25.S1.2 while the one-time missions will be active with Patch 25.S1.3 on February 5.
These changes tend to help Riot rebalance the game for the casual and die-hard fan alike.
