Arcane's fan favorite, Mel Medarda, is finally an official League of Legends champion, and her abilities are promising a fresh dynamic in the game.
True to her Arcane roots, Riot Games has some really creative mechanics on her kit, including one that's never been seen before-sure to shake up the meta. Here's a deep dive into her abilities and design.
The most exciting ability of Mel introduces a feature new to League: Projectile Reflection. This mechanic will allow her to turn her enemies' attacks against them.

Targeted Abilities Reflected
If an enemy uses a targeted spell on Mel, this ability turns it around back to the caster. For example, if Veigar uses his ultimate and Mel reflects it, the ultimate would hit Veigar himself, no matter how much he moves after casting.
Skill Shots Reflection
Non-targeted abilities, like Lux's Q or Ezreal's Mystic Shot will also be returned in the direction from which it came. For the purposes of interactions, these abilities retain their original properties, meaning:
- Jinx's Super Mega Death Rocket will deal the same distance-based damage, even when reflected.
- Thresh's hook can be turned against him, yanking him into a precarious position.
This can lead to some cool strategic elements: opponents have to think twice before casting a spell at Mel.
Form-swapping mechanic: Arcane Power
Mel also has a form-swap ability which triggers an Arcane-like glow. This should make her appearance even more dazzling, but more importantly, offer her the chance for mid-combat style changes and thus provide a player with extensive options to manage different situations easily.
Mel's design
Riot did a great job bringing Mel's Arcane essence in-game and adding a flair of Noxian into her design.
Base skin:
By default, Mel comes in a red dress and slick black armor, accented in gold-a combination of elegance and power.
Arcane Counselor skin:
Mel will also release with a thematic skin inspired by her role in Arcane, featuring her regal white outfit when she was still a counselor in Piltover, showing her before she truly embraced her Noxian heritage.
The addition of Mel Medarda to League of Legends is both visually impressive and boasts unique gameplay elements, a real translation from her Arcane character.
The unique projectile reflection and swapping of forms she can use make her a really interesting addition to the roster, opening up new strategic options and challenges for players.
