Riot Games presented their future plans as the first season of Arcane wrapped up, showing us the new look of Project L along with a statement about its release date.
Project L is a fighting game set in the universe of League of Legends and it was originally announced during the 10th anniversary of League of Legends, which was over two years ago. Riot Games presented a pile of their projects and while most of them have already been released, the fighting game is going to wait a bit longer as it will not release in 2022.
According to the devs, the showcase below was just a vertical slice and there is still a lot of work to be done on the game before it can be released. While the news is not pleasant for most fans, there are a few other highlights of the presentation , including the changed art style and more info on the game mechanics.
As far as the art style goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there will inevitably be those who like and those who don't like it. One thing is for certain for everyone though - the change from Street Fighter-esque graphics we've seen before to the ones that are a cross between comic books and browser games will help keep system requirements down. It remains to be seen which platforms the game will be available on but the new art style will probably open up more possibilities.
In the way of game mechanics, Riot confirmed the game will feature tag-team play so there will be two champions on each side. Furthermore, the video showed off Ekko's kit and while he seems to be far into development, the rest of the roster is possibly at the grassroots level.
