Fighting games have always retained their spirit as related to arcade culture. Even with new franchises like Tekken and Mortal Kombat, along with the release of their titles for modern consoles, it retained the nostalgic feel of sticky arcade floors at its core.
It's a tradition that Riot Games is keeping alive with their upcoming tag-team fighting game, 2XKO. While the humble title might be a new-gen console exclusive, its in-game lobby still pays homage to classic arcades in a way that has managed to capture fan hearts.
While 2XKO did just launch its Alpha test, tagged-team concept fans from League of Legends or fighting game enthusiasts seem to be very fond of the game, even with minor issues like having an overpowered Ekko.

What really is impressing players, however, is the game's lobby. Showing a real streak of ingenuity, it has been designed as something of an arcade, this 3D environment allowing players to mill about in waiting for 2D matches.
The truly special thing about this, however, is that one can approach different arcade machines and actually watch live matches in progress.
Fans certainly jumped on this feature very fast, calling it a game-changer and raising the bar for future gaming. The social media stockpile reverberated, where one player said, "Every lobby that tried to recreate arcades without this was missing something essential." Another fan pointed out how they improved on what Tekken had done.
While it itself has a lot to learn from other fighting games concerning the implementation of 2XKO prior to its official release, this game has gone down in fighting game history with one of the most innovative features yet.
