As players started looking for more ways to farm XP quicker, they came across an exploit that impacted player experience in the Arena game mode

In response to the LoL Arena 2v2v2v2 game mode exploit, Riot took action by making adjustments to the Event Pass progress system. Here is everything we know so far.

The release of Arena in League of Legends brought excitement as players delved into this new game mode. The introduction of Tournament of Souls and Soul Fighter Skins added to the thrill of the Summer Events.

Riot's cohesive approach of incorporating a theme into cosmetics, game mode, and meta-game enticed players to engage more.

However, the surge in popularity also brought challenges. Players seeking faster ways to earn tokens and XP stumbled upon an exploit that significantly affected the overall player experience in the Arena mode. Here's what has been uncovered so far.

Arena exploits

In other game modes, AFK detection penalizes players, or they don't earn points if they lose while the match is ongoing, as seen in TFT. However, in Arena, the absence of such mechanisms led to players exploiting the system by going AFK to farm Event XP for every minute

The exploit allows players to gain points in Arena even when AFK due to the lack of AFK detection and the point system's mechanics. Riot addressed the issue to prevent farming Event XP.

Riot changes to Event Pass for the Arena game mode

In Patch 13.15, Riot made changes to Arena to address the exploit. Event Pass Mission progress now depends on placement, discouraging AFK farming and requiring players to actively participate for higher rewards.

However, the issue still persists, as Riot has not implemented AFK Detection for Arena, possibly due to its limited-time nature, leading to their decision not to invest resources in extensive technological upgrades.
