Korean publisher Krafton, best known for titles like PUBG and last year's survival horror The Callisto Protocol have officially announced they have acquired Tango Gameworks and Hi-Fi Rush IP from Microsoft.
The company said in the press release they plan to expand the Hi-Fi Rush IP and support Tango Gameworks on their future projects.
"As part of this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects," Krafton said.
Interestingly, Krafton did not manage to acquire other IPs that Tango created like The Evil Within, which will stay with Microsoft. It's possible that Tango don't have any plans to revive this franchise since the creator of this horror series Shinji Mikami left the studio shortly after Microsoft acquired Bethesda, so Krafton didn't want to bother getting this IP in addition to Hi-Fi Rush.
Ghostwire: Tokyo IP will also remain Microsoft's property.
Krafton also said there will be no impact on the existing game catalogue of Tango's games so you'll be able to purchase and play all their games including The Evil Within 1 and 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush everywhere they are available today.
All in all, this is certainly an incredible development that makes me super happy for Tango Gameworks and their future.
Hi-Fi Rush is one of my favourite games of this generation and I can't wait to see what the Japanese studio have in store for the potential sequel.
