Info from Ubisoft games keeps leaking and this time around it looks like we're getting a proper Prince of Persia reboot but some things are still up in the air.
Prince of Persia has a large following among the older generations of gamers as the first game was even played on IBMs but it's really the era of 2000s where the series found most of its following. We are getting a remake of Sands of Time in January 2021 but an Indian YouTuber leaked the info months before Ubisoft released the official announcement.
It's the same YouTuber, going by the name LazyAssassin , who released new Prince of Persia information, including that a proper reboot is in early development. The game is still in the early concept stage and the mechanics will be redesigned entirely. This reboot is apparently planned for release in 2023 or 2024.
Considering that Sands of Time is one of the most beloved entries in the series, one could hazard a guess that its remake will serve to gauge the audience's interest in the franchise. The results of this could theoretically influence the budget the reboot would have or even if it would happen, all depending on the remake's performance.
This is all speculation at this point but if it turns out to be the case, the series' future may not be too bright, considering that the fans were not impressed by the trailer Ubisoft presented.
Graphics and animations were among the main concerns since the remake doesn't really fit into modern-day standards, especially at the dawn of a new generation of consoles.
