Niantic is cutting their support for older iPhone models. In a recent announcement they said that Pokemon GO has surpassed the capabilities of the operating systems on devices that are not capable of upgrading to iOS 11, such as iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models.
The change will take effect on 28 February. After that date, players with an older iPhone will probably carry on with their lives as usual. If there are some of you out there that will be genuinely affected by the upcoming update, you should either spend your PokéCoins fast, or think about an upgrade.
Supported devices include:
- Android
Android 4.4+
Rooted devices are not supported
Preferred resolution of 720x1280 pixels (Not optimized for tablet)
Strong internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G)
GPS and Location Services
- iOS
iPhone 5+
iOS 9+

Jailbroken devices are not supported
If you try to play Pokemon GO on an unsupported device after 28 February you'll get an error message not unlike the ones you have been getting before the update rolled out. This might be a good reason for you to go out and buy a new phone if you're a hard core fan of the game or just looking for excuses.
