S-GAME's highly anticipated action-adventure is somehow channelling martial arts spectacle, dark fantasy and emotional storytelling all together and I'm here for it.

You get the iconic "Hey, you're finally awake" line in Skyrim's intro carriage sequence, but in Phantom Blade Zero you get a full-fledged boss fight. I think that sets the expectations for what kind of game we have here.

In the 11-minute trailer, developer S-GAME delivered exactly what they've been promising all along for their highly-anticipated action-adventure: exhilarating action to make even the craziest Devil May Cry sequences look mild in comparison.

There are cutscenes, quick-time events, cinematography straight from a martial arts film, colourful characters and emotional and calm storytelling beats, all wrapped in this lengthy video that really makes Phantom Blade Zero look like a proper, high-production-value AAA title.

And that's because S-GAME brought in a famous Chinese actor, Donnie Yen, best known for his roles in the IP Man films as a Creative Consultant for action sequences in the game, which really do give off a vibe of martial arts film.

It's like Dark Souls, Devil May Cry, Ghost of Tsushima and Black Myth: Wukong decided to have a baby. That's the best description I can come up with but I leave you to watch the video for yourself. It's certainly worth it.

Phantom Blade Zero officially launches on October 29, 2026 for PC and PlayStation 5. The game is a timed exclusive for Sony's console, so don't expect it on other console systems at least for another year after launch.
