Grinding Gear Games have quite a year ahead of them, and according to their 2020 roadmap - they don't plan on letting up anytime soon. Namely, Path of Exile is getting four expansions, unhindered by parallel development of Path of Exile 2.
"This year we will release four expansions (3.10.0 - 3.13.0) on our usual quarterly schedule. The first of these, 3.10.0, will probably be announced in late February. The timing of the expansions may vary by a week or two from last year's ones, as we work around various holidays/events and make sure that the bigger ones have enough time to be fully tested", the dev wrote.
If you're a fan, or even if you're not, you know that Grinding Gear are up to their knees in Path of Exile 2 development, which they aptly refer to as Path of Exile 4.0.0, much of it being the stuff we weren't treated to at this year's ExileCon.
The dev stopped short of giving an exact date on when to expect more Path of Exile 2 stuff, but they did say it will probably be middle of the year, possibly even E3.
"We mentioned at ExileCon that the earliest we could run a public beta would be late 2020, and don't have a more accurate date than that yet. It depends a lot on how much we're able to scale up the team this year to finish the remaining acts and new systems", they said.
Chris Wilson, one of Grinding Gear's founders, recently said that the experience of announcing Path of Exile 2 at ExileCon was a surreal and overwhelming experience . He said that everything was so perfect, from execution to the audience, that the team was still buzzing even weeks later.
