In the midseason update for Overwatch 2 Season 10, Blizzard has made significant adjustments to the competitive gameplay dynamics, particularly concerning tanks.

Firstly, a 25 percent damage reduction to the head hitbox has been implemented, effectively ending the days of farming headshots on tank heroes like Winston or Roadhog.

Furthermore, crowd control effects on tanks have been notably nerfed, with knockback resistance increasing to 50 percent from the previous 30 percent. This change aims to create a more balanced experience for tanks, preventing them from being excessively displaced by enemy abilities.

Competitive Play and Hero Updates on Overwatch 2 Season 10

Demotion Protection Modifier:

The Demotion Protection modifier has been relocated from below the Rank Progress bar to within the bar itself, enhancing visibility when a player is in a Demotion Protection state.

During Demotion Protection, players will no longer receive notifications when their progress falls below the skill division's range. If a Demotion match is lost, the Skill Rank adjustment will only display the adjustment from that match, rather than the cumulative total of that match and the previous one.

New Pressure Competitive Modifier:

This rank modifier is introduced for players situated at the extreme ends of the overall skill distribution.

For highly ranked players (e.g., Champion), this modifier will indicate reduced progress earned from winning matches or greater progress lost from losing matches.

Conversely, for players with low ranks (e.g., low Bronze), this modifier will signify increased progress earned from winning matches or reduced progress loss from losing matches.

Hero updates:

Today is a good day for tank mains in OW2, and this extends to some damage heroes as well.

Armor health has been reverted to offer a consistent damage reduction of 5 per projectile, with a maximum reduction of 50%. Additionally, out-of-combat health regeneration has been adjusted from 20 health per second to 10 health per second plus 5% of maximum health. The following heroes got a buff with this patch:

  • Junker Queen
  • Sigma
  • Wrecking Ball
  • Zarya
  • Junkrat
  • Echo
  • Hanzo
  • Brigitte

Besides these changes, additional grouping restrictions have been modified. Grand Master players can now group within 3 divisions to form a narrow group, while Champion players can now group within 1 division to form a narrow group.

Furthermore, matchmaking updates have been made. Now, when a player is on a losing streak, the matchmaker will endeavor to avoid placing them on a team that is statistically predicted to have a lower chance of winning.
