In recent weeks, the bans and suspension processes in Overwatch 2 have been scrutinized, with players reporting bans for games they didn't intentionally leave, especially as leaver penalties have become stricter.
Following this community feedback, Overwatch developers have announced they will ease leaver penalties, but only for Quick Play for now.
How are the developers at Blizzard handling this?
With the recent layoffs at Blizzard and so many issues that exist currently, the developers definitely have their hands full. On top of this, with so many complaints from the players, the developers need to push themselves beyond their limits and resolve these issues asap; otherwise, it could spell disaster for the game.
The Overwatch developers responded to the community by saying, “Our goal is to adjust our queue suspension times to not be as impactful for those who may leave for reasons beyond their control, while still staying firm on those who are deliberately leaving multiple games.”
Here are all the leaving penalty systems made by the Overwatch 2 developers:
- Leaving 2 or 3 of your last 20 games played will result in a 2-minute suspension
- Leaving 4 to 5 of your last 20 games played will result in a 10-minute suspension
- Leaving 6 to 9 of your last 20 games played will result in a 2-hour suspension
- Leaving 10 or more games of your last 20 games will still result in a 48-hour suspension
With these changes, players can expect these penalties for leaving games. These suspensions impact your ability to queue in most modes, and most penalty times have been cut in half. However, the penalty for leaving 10 or more games stays at a 48-hour suspension.
The main concern here is that since the rules have been made easier, this could result in a surge of groups of individuals using this to their advantage to strategically leave games and give rise to the concept of win trading.
