No Man's Sky's Xeno Arena update launches February 20th, adding creature collection and turn-based tactical combat

No Man’s Sky Xeno Arena update introduces creature collection, turn-based battles, breeding systems and competitive multiplayer arenas.

No Man’s Sky fans have been treated to regular major updates over the past few years and Hello Games has another one coming on February 20th. Called Xeno Arena, this latest major addition to No Man’s Sky blends creature collection and tactical turn-based combat into the game.

Xeno Arena promises to take the plentiful wildlife found on No Man’s Sky planets and turn them into active, playable pets.

Creature Collection and Battles

With Xeno Arena arriving in No Man’s Sky next week, players will be able to hunt down alien wildlife all across the universe and then pit those creatures against each other in tactical battles. Creatures spotted while exploring can be captured and formed into squads to do battle in a strategic turn-based system.

Players aren’t limited to simply gathering creatures though. The addition of breeding and fighting allows players to:

  • Train and level up creatures to increase statsCapture, breed, and genetically modify creatures for unique variants
  • Discover rare and legendary creatures with special properties

Training your companions creates a level of character progression that players have been able to experience with their ships and gear.

Taken far enough, you could go from finding a common Fighting Pokecrawler on one world to stepping into the arena with a legendary critter wielding massive strength.

Multiplayer Arenas and Competition

Xeno Arenas act as places players can go to find competition. New areas within Space Stations and the Nexus will act as hubs for player-versus-player combat. Players can also create their own arenas and invite others to participate in competition.

Creating and managing your own arena also lets players host tournaments and leagues. With rankings, leagues, and daily quests players should have no shortage of things to strive for when battling others.

Overall Xeno Arena serves as another fantastic addition to No Man’s Sky. By heavily rewarding players that seek out and find rare creatures on unique planets, exploration just got even better.
