Streaming giant Netflix and King Features Syndicate have officially announced that Cuphead animated series named The Cuphead Show! is coming to Netflix. Unfortunately, the project does not have a specific release date at this time.
Dark Souls of modern platformers - Cuphead - is set to get its own TV series it's been officially announced by the American streaming giant Netflix and King Features Syndicate.
In a joint announcement on Netflix's website, it's stated that the TV series will expand the Cuphead world and the characters shown in the video game, with an animation style inspired by the classic Fleischer cartoons from the 1930s.
The Cuphead Show! will be produced by King Features' CJ Kettler and creators of the game - Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, who will serve as Executive Producers for Studio MDHR.
Netflix Animation studio will work on the series and Emmy and Annie Award-winning producer Dave Wasson, known for Mickey Mouse Shorts and Cosmo Segurson will serve as co-executive producer.
The series will be a character-driven comedy that follows the two brothers we met in the game. "The character-driven comedy follows the unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman. Through their many misadventures across their surreal home of the Inkwell Isles, they’ve always got one another’s backs," it's written in the official description of the series.
Unfortunately, the project does not have a release date yet but our safe guess would be 2020. The only thing that we have for now is the artwork of the TV series, which doesn't reveal much. Hopefully, a teaser trailer will drop in the upcoming months.
This is not Netflix's first game adaptation, quite the contrary, the company ramped up their gaming adaptations in the last few years with critically acclaimed Castlevania animated TV series and Skylanders Academy.
Netflix is also working on their own games. Stranger Things 3: The Game launched earlier this month, in celebration of the third season of the record-breaking TV series.
