NetherRealm have introduced competitive Kombat League mode to Mortal Kombat 11 in the latest update. Kombat League brings ranked play and exclusive seasonal awards over the course of four weeks. The first season officially kicks off today.
Mortal Kombat 11 has been hugely popular title ever since its release earlier this year and the developers NetherRealm Studios aim to make it even more enjoyable and competitive with the introduction of Kombat League.
Basically, it's a brand new seasonal ranked mode that brings exclusive skins and gear over the course of four weeks. The first season is officially starting today - 18 June 2019 - and it's named Season of Blood. Every season will have a different theme and all skins that you earn in the first one will be black, white and red.
Each Kombat League season will see players battling out ranked matches against opponents with identical or similar skill level. There's a nine-tier progress tree that starts with Apprentice and ends with the ultimate title - Elder God. Each of these nine ranks has its own special cosmetic rewards and once the season ends, players will get icons and backgrounds with their highest rank that was achieved during the season.
Furthermore, there are daily and season missions that players can complete for additional rewards. In Season of Blood, most of the daily rewards are focused on blood and how much you spill it during the match.
For those who want to know what they're getting into before the match starts, NetherRealm added a special meter that shows your odds against the opponent. However, the devs say that the matchmaking system is well optimised and will ensure that players are always near their level, which should reduce one-sided matches.
Once Season of Blood wraps up, NetherRealm will introduce new season but they are yet to announce the name or theme.
In other Mortal Kombat 11 news, today is also the day for the arrival of Shang Tsung who becomes available to owners of the Kombat Pack One.
