Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection adds the new Habitat Restoration system, letting players restore ecosystems, hatch rare eggs, and create special mutated monsters. Here’s everything confirmed for the 2026 RPG.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is gearing up to be one of Capcom’s largest RPGs to date, building on the series’ trademark dedication to exploration, ecosystem management, and monster raising through monster companions.

Unveiled alongside new Monster Hunter Wilds details, the latest trailer offers a glimpse into a much more involved world in which player actions shape habitats and the monsters that live within them.

First shown at The Game Awards 2023, the game now has a full release date of 13 March 2026 and we’ve just gotten our first proper look at the systems set to shape this next chapter.

Habitat Restoration explained

Habitat Restoration involves hatching monster eggs, raising and bonding with the monsters as players’ companions, then releasing them back into regions where the species have low population counts.

Habitat Restoration makes those local populations stronger and allows players to find new mutated species of existing monsters. These mutations are based on which region and habitat the monster has adapted to.

New elemental types, traits, and designs are all based on the mutated species and the habitat in which it adapted.

Mutated Monsters and unique variants

Examples include a mutated, fire red Zinogre shown in the picture above, which swaps out its natural thunder element in favor of fire after being released and adapting to a player-restored habitat.

Other unique or rare monsters, like Dreadqueen Rathian seen below, can also be potentially encountered in order to incentivize players to restore as many regions as possible, creating different mutation variants based on the player’s decisions.

New additions and returning favourites

We can also see Arkveld, Monster Hunter Wilds’s flagship monster, in the trailer as well as brand new kinship animations made exclusively for Stories 3.

These additions are made to support Capcom’s aim to incorporate storytelling along with creature-based progression by giving players increased agency in how their Monstie roster develops.

Platforms and release date

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 on 13 March 2026.
