Many RPGs out there feature fishing as a resource gathering method, and Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest action RPG from Capcom, is one of them. You'll discover fishing very early in the game if you decide to explore everything you can put inside your item pouch. Among many items, you'll find a fishing rod, meaning there will be fishing in the game, for certain.
However, fishing won't be available until a bit later in the game, not because you won't be able to fish due to some game restrictions, but simply because you won't find any bodies of water suitable for hosting enough fish inside.

How to fish in Monster Hunter Wilds
As we said earlier, fishing isn't limited by some in-game restriction at the beginning of the game but rather by the lack of a proper place to fish in. The first place where fishing can start will be inside the jungle—the third area of the game, and once you get there, you'll unlock a couple of camps.
Inside the last camp, just before leaving the area, or more precisely, after the first Wight Wraith encounter, you'll meet the NPC called Kanya. If you look more carefully, you'll spot her fishing on a nearby pond. Talk to her, and she will give you a small quest to catch the fish.
Hold the L1 button (PlayStation controller), pull out the pouch located on the down button on the D-Pad, and choose the fishing rod from the wheel. Now, hold the L2 button, choose the place where you like to cast the line (pick the place where the fish are), and press the R2 button to cast.
Move the left stick up and down, and soon the fish will bite. Real by pressing the R2 button as soon as it takes the bite, and that's it; you'll catch the fish. Apart from catching the fish and gaining some valuable resources, catching the fish will pop up the Angling for a Bite trophy/achievement.
