Key Points from the Article

  • The datamined files reveal Switch 2-specific DLSS presets (ranging from D to I instead of standard A to C) indicating unique hardware optimization for Nintendo's platform
  • Local wireless multiplayer functionality for Switch 2 was discovered, supporting up to four consoles connecting in the same area with passcode-protected lobbies

A new datamine suggests Monster Hunter Wilds may release on Nintendo Switch 2, featuring DLSS support, performance tweaks, and local multiplayer for up to four players.

A recent rumour from dataminers is claiming that Monster Hunter Wilds is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, with multiple signs of platform-specific optimisations and local multiplayer.

There is no official confirmation from Capcom, but a new datamine of the game has opened up discussion of a potential Switch 2 version.

Monster Hunter Wilds: could it be coming to Nintendo Switch 2?

Posted on the r/MonsterHunter subreddit, a new datamine is suggesting that Monster Hunter Wilds may have been developed for Nintendo Switch 2 as well. The leak includes multiple strings mentioning an “NSW2 upgrade edition” within the game files, which appears to be a dedicated configuration profile.

The files contain:

  • A dedicated “nsw2UpgradeEdition” configuration flag
  • NPC culling behaviour specific to Switch 2
  • DLSS preset options specific to Switch 2

However, the Switch 2 DLSS presets range from “DLSSQualityPresetD” to “DLSSQualityPresetI” instead of the A to C presets found on other platforms. This would indicate that the Switch 2 version is optimised differently from other platforms, but perhaps better suited to Nintendo’s hardware.

Local multiplayer functionality is also interesting to note. The datamine found references to multiple strings for local communication lobbies, which allow nearby Nintendo Switch 2 consoles to join the same game.

If this is true, it will allow:

  • Local lobbies connecting via wireless communication
  • Connection of up to four Switch 2 consoles within a local area
  • Passcode protected lobbies for private multiplayer

A local Switch 2 version for Monster Hunter Wilds would make sense, particularly as the feature is rather unique to Nintendo. This suggests that Capcom may be utilising the specific strengths of each platform in different ways.

Monster Hunter Wilds launched on February 28, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, and allows full cross-platform play. If there is a Switch 2 version, it would be great news for Monster Hunter fans who own a Nintendo console, but particularly those who like to play locally or prefer portable gaming.
