Monster Hunter Wilds: How to prepare meals

Monster Hunter Wilds is an RPG where eating can make a difference, making your character better prepared for the hunts. Here is everything you need to know about this mechanic.

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest action RPG about hunting monsters from Capcom, is a game where certain actions can make a real difference when facing some tough monsters that you and your team must deal with in a proper way.

One such mechanic is keeping your character well fed because sending them hunting with an empty stomach isn't very brave. First, their health will decrease significantly faster, and second, proper eating gives your character numerous buffs and advantages.

If this mechanic, probably like many others, is a bit confusing to you, we've prepared a guide explaining everything regarding eating and making meals, so without further ado, let's get on with it.

How to prepare meals and eat in Monster Hunter Wilds

At the early stages of the game, when you'll receive lots of tutorials and hints that will most certainly be overwhelming to you, one of the mechanics the game will explain will be eating and preparing meals because going around while hungry is highly unadvisable.

To prepare meals, you must have ingredients to begin with, and those can be obtained in two ways: inside the camps in the places called Ingredient Centres and in the wilderness. Ingredient centres will provide you with ingredients only once a day, and then you'll have to wait for them to restock.

In the wilderness, you'll be able to loot monster corpses or pick herbs and mushrooms, or you'll be able to fish to stock up on some high-quality proteins required for preparing high-stat meals.

Once you have all the required ingredients, the next step is to prepare a meal. To do that, you must pick a place where you won't be disturbed and use a portable BBQ grill. Hold the L1 button (PlayStation controller) and press the down button on the D-Pad. This will pop up the wheel menu. Choose the portable BBQ grill option and release. Once you do that, the cutscene will commence, showcasing the BBQ assembly.

From the next menu, you'll be able to choose between making a custom meal or choosing the one that meets the required situation and your inventory recommends to you. Our advice is to go for the recommended one because, in this way, you'll get the most out of the current situation.

Eat the meal and you'll be ready to confront bigger challenges, and remember, do not go on the hunt with an empty stomach because, in this way, the hunter can easily become a pray.
